Terms of Use
Effective: 01/11/2026
In short: you pay a one-time fee and get a #COMMS account. There is no subscription. Keep your 12-word recovery phrase safe: we cannot reset it for you. Use #COMMS lawfully and respectfully. The fee is not refundable once your account has been created.
1. Who we are and this agreement
#COMMS is provided by COMSOVE GLOBAL OPERATIONS LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 15666805, whose registered office is at COMSOVE Sphere Centre, Great Portland Street, London, United Kingdom ("we", "us"). These Terms are a contract between you and us. By paying the registration fee and creating an account you accept them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data.
2. Who can use #COMMS
You must be at least 16 years old and able to enter into this contract. One account is for one person.
3. Your account
- Your account is identified by your username and by keys created on your phone. We do not ask for your phone number or e-mail address.
- When you register, the app shows a 12-word recovery phrase. It is the only way to restore your account if you lose your phone. We do not have it and cannot reset it. If you lose it, your account cannot be recovered.
- To protect accounts, each phone may make at most 5 recovery attempts in any 30 days.
- You are responsible for keeping your phone and recovery phrase secure.
4. Registration fee
- Creating an account requires a one-time registration fee. The amount is shown in the app and on the payment page before you pay, including any VAT. There is no subscription and no recurring charge.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. Card details go to Stripe, not to us.
- We may change the fee for new registrations. A change never affects accounts that already exist.
- Restoring your account with your recovery phrase does not require a new fee.
5. Access and refunds
The registration fee pays for creating your account and for access to the app. Your account is created, and you can use #COMMS, immediately after payment. Once your account has been created, the service you paid for has been provided in full, and the fee is not refundable. If your payment is taken but your account cannot be created, we will either complete your registration or refund the fee. This does not affect your statutory rights.
6. Acceptable use
You must not use #COMMS to:
- break the law, or help anyone else to do so;
- create, share or request child sexual abuse material, or any content that is illegal in the United Kingdom;
- harass, threaten, stalk, defraud or impersonate anyone;
- send spam, or create accounts or invitations by automated means;
- access other people's accounts or our systems without permission, or scan, overload or disrupt the service;
- copy, modify or redistribute the app in a way that misleads others about its origin.
7. Reports and enforcement
Because messages and calls are end-to-end encrypted, we cannot see their content. If someone sends you illegal or abusive content, you can report it to COMMS; you may include the content yourself. We review reports and may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms, and we cooperate with valid legal requests as described in our Privacy Policy. If we close your account for a serious breach, we will not refund the fee.
8. Usernames
Usernames are first come, first served. We may refuse or reclaim a username that impersonates a person or organisation, is reserved, or breaks these Terms. When an account is deleted, its username stays locked for at least 6 months so nobody can impersonate the former owner.
9. The service
We aim to keep #COMMS available and secure, but we cannot promise it will always be available or error-free; calls and messages also depend on your phone and internet connection. We may improve or change features. If we ever decide to close #COMMS, we will give at least 60 days' notice on our website and, where possible, in the app.
10. Getting the app
#COMMS for Android is distributed outside app stores. Only install it from hashcomms.com. Every version is signed with our key; Android refuses to update the app with a version signed by anyone else.
11. Our liability
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, we are not liable for losses that were not foreseeable, for business losses, or for loss of messages kept on your phone. Our total liability to you is limited to the registration fee you paid.
12. Ending your account
You may delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Delete account). Deleting is permanent: your data is removed from our server and your phone, and your recovery phrase will no longer restore the account.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will announce an important change on our website and, where possible, in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you may delete your account.
14. Law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You may bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts of the place where you live.
